Abstract
To observe correlation of the human P-glycoprotein and GST-pi expression as a prognostic factor of colonic adenocarcinoma, immunohistochemical studies were carried out by using avidin-biotin complex immunoperoxidase method in paraffin embedded
sections
from 60 cases.
The studies consisted of 22 cases of well differentiated type, 28cases of moderately differentiated type, 8 cases of mucinous type and 2cases of poorly differentiated type among the colonic adenpcarcinoma.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. The P-glycoprotein and GST-pi immunoreactive cells were found to be concentrated along the luminal border and/or intracytoplasmic area of the neoplastic cells in right(12 out of 16 cases) and left(28 out of 44 cases) colonic
adenocarcinoma.
2. The expression of P-glycoprotein and GST-pi in colonic adenocarcinoma depended upon the differentiation of tumor cells.
3. The expression of P-glycoprotein and GST-pi in Dukes' type B2 and C3 was higher than that of Dukes' A and B1 type.
4. Therefore, authors suggested that P-glycoprotein and GST-pi expression were correlated with drug resistance and tumor progression of colonic adenocarcinoma.
